Pharmaceutics 2024 Best Paper Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the “Pharmaceutics 2024 Best Paper Award” for research and review articles published in Pharmaceutics from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022. One review and two research articles will receive an award each. The papers will be selected after a thorough evaluation by the journal Award Committee led by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Patrick J. Sinko.
Eligibility for the Award:
– Papers published in Pharmaceutics from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022;
– Open to all career levels;
– Both regular and Special Issue submissions will be considered.
Selection Criteria:
The papers will be selected by the journal Award Committee according to the following criteria:
– Scientific merit and broad impact;
– Originality of the research objectives and/or the ideas presented;
– Creativity of the study design or uniqueness of the approaches and concepts;
– Clarity of presentation;
– Citations and downloads.
The Prize:
– One review award: CHF 500 and a chance to publish a paper free of charge in Pharmaceutics in 2024 after peer review;
– Two research article awards: CHF 500 and a chance to publish a paper free of charge in Pharmaceutics in 2024 after peer review;
– Each winner will also receive a certificate.
The winners will be announced on the journal website in February 2024.

Pharmaceutics 2024 Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the Pharmaceutics 2024 Travel Award will be granting the Travel Award to two junior scientists. The applications will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee consisting of senior scholars from the Pharmaceutics Editorial Board.
This award provides financial support for the winners to attend an international conference in the field of pharmaceutics to be held in 2024, in order to deliver a presentation, present a poster, or both.
Candidate Requirements:
– Postdoctoral fellows or PhD students.
– Plans to attend an international conference in 2024 (oral presentation or poster).
Required Application Documents:
– Information of the conference the applicant is planning to attend and the abstract that will be submitted.
– Curriculum Vitae and list of publications.
– Justification letter describing the focus of the research (max. 800 words).
– Letter of recommendation from the supervisor, research director, or department head, which also confirms the applicant’s status as a postdoctoral fellow/PhD student.
The winners (two awardees) will each be awarded CHF 800 and a certificate.
Please submit your applications for the Pharmaceutics 2024 Travel Award online by 31 December 2023. Prizes will be awarded at the end of February 2024 and announced on the Pharmaceutics website.

Pharmaceutics 2023 Best PhD Thesis Award
Dear Colleagues,
The journal Pharmaceutics is inviting applications for the 2023 Best PhD Thesis Award. This prize will be awarded to a PhD student or recently qualified PhD who has produced a highly anticipated thesis with great academic potential. The applications will be assessed by an evaluation committee led by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Patrick J. Sinko.
Eligibility and Requirements:
– The candidate must be a PhD student or recently qualified PhD who has produced a highly anticipated thesis with great academic potential;
– The PhD thesis must be their original work;
– The PhD thesis must be defended between 1 July 2022 and 30 September 2023.
Required Application Documents:
– An executive summary of the PhD thesis in English of around 3000 words;
– A letter from the PhD supervisor recommending the candidate for consideration for this award;
– The candidate’s CV, including a list of publications connected with the thesis;
– An electronic copy of the PhD thesis;
– A scanned copy of the PhD diploma (or certificate of studying at a school or research institute as a PhD student going to graduate or participate in graduation thesis defenses).
Selection Criteria:
– Quality of resume and publications;
– Relevance of the candidate and research description;
– Novelty of the candidate’s PhD thesis;
– Strength of the recommendation letter;
– Anticipated academic potential;
– Originality and impact of the research.
Prizes:
– Bonus (CHF 800);

– Offer to publish one paper free of charge in Pharmaceutics after peer review before the end of 2024.

Pharmaceutics 2023 Young Investigator Award

We are pleased to announce that Pharmaceutics is now inviting nominations for the Pharmaceutics 2023 Young Investigator Award. This prize will be given to a young investigator in recognition of their excellence in the field of pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics. All nominations will be assessed by an Award Evaluation Committee led by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Patrick J. Sinko.
The Prize
– CHF 2000;
– Option to publish one paper free of charge in Pharmaceutics after peer review by 31 December 2024;

– Must have received their PhD no more than 10 years prior to 31 December 2023;

Pharmaceutics 2022 Young Investigator Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Pharmaceutics 2022 Young Investigator Award is Dr. Gregor Fuhrmann.
Dr. Gregor Fuhrmann is a Professor at the Department of Biology at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany. Dr. Fuhrmann’s research expertise lies in the field of new biomaterials and targeted drug delivery. He is interested in extracellular vesicles (EVs), whose role in cellular communication he is investigating in detail, and developing them into therapeutic drug carriers and diagnostics in infection and inflammation. Dr. Fuhrmann received his PhD with distinction from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich in 2013 and has an outstanding publication record, comprising 58 publications in peer-reviewed international journals. His Scopus scientific citations number is 6638 and his Hirsch index is 23; he is clearly a rising star in the field of extracellular vesicles. As a single applicant, Dr. Fuhrmann has secured funding of more than EUR 4.4 million since 2013, including an ERC Starting Grant; this is an outstanding achievement in today’s competitive environment. Dr. Qi (Tony) Zhou is an University Faculty Scholar Associate Professor of the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy at Purdue University, West Lafayette, USA. Dr. Zhou’s research interests are in particle engineering for innovative manufacturing of solids, the advanced characterization of pharmaceutical solid sosage forms, and the novel formulation design for pulmonary drug delivery systems. Dr. Zhou received his PhD in 2012 from Monash University of Australia and has an outstanding publication record, comprising >100 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and 9 international patents/patent applications. He is clearly a rising star in the field of phamceutics with numerous international awards. Dr Zhou is an Editor of AAPS PharmSciTech and Editorial Board Memember of many pharmaceutical journals. He has secured funding of more than USD 8 million since 2013, which is an outstanding achievement in today’s competitive environment. Pharmaceutics 2020 Young Investigator Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Pharmaceutics 2020 Young Investigator Award is Dr. Hongbo Zhang, an Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Science at Åbo Akademi University, Turku, Finland.
He received his PhD from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Helsinki in December 2012 and then completed three years postdoc at Harvard University supervised by Prof. David A. Weitz. He has a multidisciplinary background in pharmacy, nanotechnology, microfluidics, precision medication, and bioimaging. His research focuses on functional materials and microfluidics for biomedical applications and single cell analysis. Dr. Zhang is very active in promoting international collaborations and focuses on translational research and University-industry collaboration.
As the awardee, Dr. Zhang will receive an honorarium of 2000 CHF, an offer to publish a paper free of charge without a fixed deadline in Pharmaceutics after peer review, and an engraved plaque.

Pharmaceutics 2020 Travel Award

Dr. Wei Li is a postdoctoral researcher from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Helsinki, Finland. His research focuses on the development of nano/micro-particles with ultrahigh drug loading for controlled drug delivery.
Ms. Andreia Almeida is a PhD student at the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS) and Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S), University of Porto, Portugal. Her PhD research is based on the production of mucoadhesive camptothecin polymeric micelles as nanodelivery systems for oral chemotherapy to treat colorectal cancer.
Each Travel Award consists of a certificate and 800 CHF for the recipient to attend an academic conference of their choice in 2020. Congratulations to the winners of this highly competitive travel award.

Dr. Settimio Pacelli is a postdoctoral researcher in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Kansas, USA. His research focuses on the development of biocompatible hydrogels for drug delivery in bone tissue engineering.
Mr. João Pedro Martins is a PhD student at the University of Helsinki, Finland. His PhD research is focused on the transport of nanoparticles across the intestinal microenvironment and, thereby, helping to make the oral delivery of antidiabetic drugs a reality.

Pharmaceutics 2018 Young Investigator Award
We are pleased to announce the winner of the Pharmaceutics Young Investigator Award 2018, Dr. Aaron C. Anselmo, an Assistant Professor at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy, Division of Pharmacoengineering and Molecular Pharmaceutics, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
His work focuses on developing pharmaceutics-based approaches to deliver therapeutic bacteria. He combines pharmaceutics fundamentals to inform the engineering of new delivery systems for the microbiota. This work overlaps microbiology and microbe ecology, pharmaceutics, engineering and drug delivery to develop new strategies for treating microbiota-related disorders. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Aaron C. Anselmo for a well-deserved prize.
As the awardee, Dr. Anselmo will receive an honorarium of 2000 CHF, an offer to publish a paper free of charge without a fixed deadline in Pharmaceutics, and a certificate.

Pharmaceutics 2018 Travel Award
Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the Evaluation Committee, we are pleased to announce the winner of the Pharmaceutics 2018 Travel Award, Mr. Lasse Ingerslev Blaabjerg, who will be supported with 800 Swiss Francs towards his travel expenses to attend the annual conference of PSSRC (Pharmaceutical Solid State Research Cluster), 12–14 September in Leuven, Belgium.
Mr. Lasse Ingerslev Blaabjerg is a PhD student at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. His research focuses on preclinical drug development, especially manufacturing and formulation of poorly soluble compounds. He is keen to present his work on “Physical stability of poor and good glass formers in supersaturated solid dispersions” at PSSRC. We congratulate Mr. Lasse Ingerslev Blaabjerg for his accomplishments.
