Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to contribute to a Special Issue of Pathogens that discusses the role of the intestinal and/or urinary microbiome in urologic disease. More evidence is emerging that links the composition of the intestinal microbiome to the maintenance of overall urologic health. Dysbiosis of this highly symbiotic environment has been linked to increased risk of the development of disease, including that of the urinary tract. With the recent discovery that the urinary tract is not sterile, but instead  colonized by a commensal urinary microbiome, a new area of research into factors that contribute to urinary disease has emerged.

This Special Issue will contribute to expanding our understanding of past and present research into the role of the intestinal and urinary microbiome in the maintenance of overall urinary health and increasing the risk for the development of urologic disease. The Issue does not focus strictly on one disease type, but rather provides an all-encompassing view of the state of research into the interplay between the microbiome and the urinary tract.
