Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The obesity epidemic has been growing steadily across the whole world, particularly in Western countries. Caloric restriction (CR) represents one of the most used strategies against obesity. It is well described that CR favorably impacts the metabolic and immune/inflammatory profile in obese subjects. One particular CR diet is the so-called ketogenic diet—a dietetic regimen that mimics fasting by restricting carbohydrates and fat with a moderate increase in protein intake. Furthermore, this diet intervention has various beneficial effects on numerous organs and tissues, reducing inflammatory mediators and modulating neurotransmitter activity.

Even if different aspects are continuously analyzed by the scientific community, several aspects should be clarified. Given the importance of the topic, the journal Nutrients is launching a Special Issue entitled “The Emerging Role of Ketogenic Diet in Preventing Disease: Hype or Hope?” with the aim of gathering accurate and up-to-date scientific information on all aspects of the ketogenic diet.
