Coatings based on graphene nanostructures represent one of the most promising solutions for protecting metals from corrosion. However, their application remains unprofitable due to the high production costs, which are caused by the imperfections in graphene nanostructures synthesis methods. Therefore, this work utilized few-layer graphene particles synthesized via self-propagating high-temperature synthesis for coating fabrication. The effectiveness of these coatings in protecting metals against corrosion was tested in a salt spray chamber. It was found that the synthesized coatings provide excellent protection for the steel substrate against corrosion, and their effectiveness is significantly higher than that of polymer coatings based on epoxy resin. A hypothesis was proposed to explain the high efficiency of the coatings based on few-layer graphene particles. This is attributed to their low defect density (absence of Stone-Wales defects in their structure) and the presence of multiple layers, which enhances the barrier effect.

This study demonstrates the fabrication of high-performance p-Cu2O/n-β-Ga2O3 heterojunction barrier Schottky (JBS) diodes using copper as a low-work-function anode metal. By optimizing the Cu2O spacing to 4 μm, the device achieves a turn-on voltage of 0.78 V, a breakdown voltage of 1700 V, and a specific on-resistance of 5.91 mΩ·cm2, yielding a power figure of merit of 0.49 GW/cm2. The JBS diode also exhibits stable electrical characteristics across the temperature range of 300–425 K. Under a 200 V reverse stress for 5000 s, the JBS diode shows only a 4.16% degradation in turn-on voltage and a 1.15-fold increase in dynamic specific on-resistance variation, highlighting its excellent resistance to stress-induced degradation. These results indicate that Cu2O/Ga2O3 JBS diodes are promising candidates for next-generation high-efficiency and high-voltage power electronic applications.

This study presents the synthesis and comprehensive characterization of tin dioxide nanoparticles (SnO2NPs). SnO2NPs were obtained using a conventional wet-chemistry route and an environmentally friendly green-chemistry approach employing plant extracts from rooibos leaves (Aspalathus linearis), pomegranate seeds (Punica granatum), and kiwifruit peels (family Actinidiaceae). The thermal stability and decomposition profiles were analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), while their structural and physicochemical properties were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), Raman spectroscopy, and attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirmed the nanoscale morphology and uniformity of the obtained particles. The photocatalytic activity of SnO2NPs was evaluated via the degradation of methyl orange (MeO) under UV irradiation, revealing that nanoparticles synthesized using rooibos extract exhibited the highest efficiency (68% degradation within 180 min). Furthermore, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy was employed to study the adsorption behavior of L-phenylalanine (L-Phe) on the SnO2NP surface. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report demonstrating the use of pure SnO2 nanoparticles as SERS substrates for biologically active, low-symmetry molecules. The calculated enhancement factor (EF) reached up to two orders of magnitude (102), comparable to other transition metal-based nanostructures. These findings highlight the potential of SnO2NPs as multifunctional materials for biomedical and sensing applications, bridging nanotechnology and regenerative medicine.

Doping lead-free halide perovskite nanocrystals with trivalent lanthanide ions has emerged as a promising strategy for engineering their optical properties in various photonic applications. Here, we report the design and synthesis of a series of lead-free double halide perovskite (Cs2Na(In/Y/Gd)Cl6) nanocrystals co-doped with a pair of different lanthanides (e.g., Tb3+, Dy3+, and Eu3+) as emission centers, and ns2 ions (Sb3+ or Bi3+) as sensitizers. The tunability of the delayed photoluminescence spectral density was achieved through the selective excitation of lanthanide dopants either via ligand-to-metal charge transfer (e.g., Eu3+) or via ns2 ion s-p transitions (e.g., Dy3+ or Tb3+). The intensities of the narrow lanthanide f-f emission bands can, therefore, be tuned by modulating the excitation wavelength and/or dopant ratio, allowing for the accurate engineering of the emission color coordinates and spectral density. We also demonstrated time-resolved tuning of the photoluminescence spectral density for the investigated nanocrystal host lattices co-doped with transition-metal (Mn2+) and lanthanide ions, owing to a large difference between the decay dynamics for Mn2+ d-d and lanthanide f-f transitions. The rational co-doping of double halide perovskite nanocrystals reported in this work provides a new strategy for generating pre-designed multilevel luminescent signatures for protection against counterfeiting.
