Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The increasing complexity and diversity of composite materials and structures demand sophisticated modelling and simulation techniques to accurately predict their mechanical behaviour, failure mechanisms, and long-term performance. From fibre-reinforced polymers and woven textiles to 3D-printed composites and multi-scale architectures, these materials present unique challenges that classical analytical approaches cannot fully address. Advances in computational methods—including the Finite Element Method, full-field spectral methods, micromechanical modelling, and data-driven approaches—combined with high-resolution characterisation techniques such as micro-computed tomography, are opening new frontiers in virtual material design and structural assessment.

This Special Issue invites original research articles and review papers that advance the state of the art in modelling and simulation of composite materials and structures. Topics of interest span micro-, meso-, and macro-scale analyses, damage and failure modelling, the integration of experimental data into computational frameworks, and emerging manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing. By bringing together contributions from across these disciplines, this issue aims to provide a comprehensive reference for researchers and engineers working at the intersection of materials science, applied mechanics, and computational engineering.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Modelling is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
