Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is obvious today that technology will not be sufficient to combat the negative impacts of climate change if we fail to sufficiently mitigate them. Aside from costly carbon capture and sequestration, it is necessary to develop low cost, low technological, large scale and efficient approaches for removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Some of these approaches have already been proven theoretically to be effective in trapping significant amounts of carbon for millennia, such as soil organic matter or silicate weathering. However, many questions are still pending regarding their potential large-scale implementation, the evaluation of their feedback on the Earth’s climate, as well as their optimization in function of local conditions, either environmental or related to policies. This Special Issue will focus on recent advances in such negative emission approaches with particular emphasis on the management of terrestrial environments, silicate and carbonate weathering and their coupling with the carbon cycle, and the role of soils through organic matter dynamics.

Minerals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
