Dear Colleagues,
The recent years have witnessed an unprecedented expansion in the field of advanced nanomaterials and nanotechnology, driven by their transformative potential across multiple domains, including healthcare, energy, environmental remediation, and advanced manufacturing. The unique physicochemical properties of nanomaterials—such as high surface-to-volume ratios, tunable optical behavior, and quantum-scale effects—have enabled breakthroughs in areas ranging from targeted drug delivery and biosensing to catalysis and sustainable energy systems. Global research output and investment in nanotechnology continue to rise significantly, reflecting its strategic importance in addressing pressing societal challenges and fostering technological innovation.
At the same time, the field faces critical challenges related to scalability, reproducibility, environmental impact, and regulatory frameworks. Emerging trends highlight the integration of nanomaterials with digital technologies, green synthesis approaches, and multifunctional hybrid systems, as well as the growing importance of safety-by-design and lifecycle assessment strategies. These developments underscore the timeliness of advancing fundamental understanding while accelerating translation into real-world applications. Consequently, research in advanced nanomaterials is not only scientifically compelling but also essential for bridging the gap between laboratory innovation and industrial implementation.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to advanced nanomaterials and nanotechnology, with a particular focus on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of innovative nanoscale systems. We consider contributions addressing both fundamental and applied aspects, including emerging materials, novel fabrication techniques, and real-world implementations across interdisciplinary fields.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
