Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Ferroelectric and dielectric materials have long been recognised as indispensable functional materials owing to their exceptional electrical, electromechanical, optical, and thermal properties. Recent advances in materials science, nanotechnology, and manufacturing techniques have significantly expanded the range of available ferroelectric and dielectric materials, including ceramics, polymers, thin films, single crystals, composites, and emerging low-dimensional materials. These developments have enabled remarkable progress in high-performance electronic devices, energy storage systems, sensors, actuators, transducers, non-volatile memories, flexible electronics, wearable devices, biomedical technologies, and next-generation communication systems. At the same time, increasing demands for sustainable manufacturing, lead-free alternatives, miniaturisation, multifunctionality, and enhanced reliability continue to drive innovation in material design, fabrication processes, and device integration. Addressing the remaining scientific and technological challenges requires interdisciplinary efforts spanning materials synthesis, structural characterisation, theoretical modelling, and practical engineering applications.

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for researchers to present the latest advances in the fabrication, characterisation, modelling, and application of advanced ferroelectric and dielectric materials. Original research articles, reviews, and perspectives are welcomed on topics including, but not limited to, novel material synthesis and processing methods; thin-film deposition and additive manufacturing; lead-free and environmentally friendly ferroelectric materials; dielectric ceramics, polymers, composites, and nanostructured materials; domain engineering and microstructure optimisation; electrical, mechanical, thermal, and optical characterisation; computational modelling and simulation; energy storage and energy harvesting devices; capacitors; piezoelectric, pyroelectric, and electrocaloric materials; sensors, actuators, transducers, and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS); flexible and wearable electronics; photonic and optoelectronic devices; artificial intelligence-assisted materials discovery and optimisation; and emerging applications in healthcare, robotics, aerospace, telecommunications, and sustainable energy technologies. Through this collection, the Special Issue seeks to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, highlight recent breakthroughs, and stimulate future research that bridges fundamental materials science with practical device development and industrial implementation.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
