Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Global deserts and drylands are at the heart of scientific, social, and environmental research. Climate change, population growth, environmental sustainability, conflict, and development strategies in arid and semi-arid regions are central to our modern world. Encouraging investigation across vast dryland regions enables us to address a significant range of key research questions. Connecting disparate themes from water and dust, archaeology and anthropology, geomorphology and geography to economics, history and international relations represent the essential nature of desert-related research. Security, scarcity, sustainability, and society link arid regions and present contemporary concerns. As environments, resources, land use, degradation, engagement, and management regimes evolve in the 21st century, the challenges in drylands endure. This Special Issue focuses on new knowledge and understanding practices and processes in global drylands and deserts. Links between methods, topics, and approaches to the investigation and incorporation of key themes in today’s dryland research environment are encouraged.
