Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), including large language models, autonomous intelligent agents, and multimodal content creation systems, is transforming the ways in which knowledge is created, organized, shared, taught, and applied. These developments are reshaping knowledge management, organizational learning, education, decision-making, innovation, and human–AI collaboration. At the same time, they raise important questions concerning sustainability, ethics, trust, authorship, transparency, equity, and the future role of human expertise in knowledge-intensive environments.
We invite submissions to this Special Issue on “Generative AI for Sustainable Knowledge Systems, Learning, and Innovation.” The Special Issue will advance scholarly understanding of how GenAI is changing knowledge processes and how these transformations can support sustainable, responsible, and human-centered futures. The topic is closely aligned with the scope of Knowledge, particularly in relation to knowledge management, knowledge technologies, knowledge-based education and practice, organizational learning, knowledge sharing, innovation, and knowledge-based societies.
This Special Issue welcomes conceptual, empirical, methodological, review, and practice-oriented papers. We are especially interested in research that critically examines the role of GenAI in knowledge creation, knowledge governance, sustainable organizational learning, AI-supported education, and responsible innovation. Expanded and substantially revised versions of selected papers from LTEC 2026 and KMO 2026 are also welcome, provided that they offer clear additional contributions beyond the original conference proceedings version.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Generative AI and knowledge creation, sharing, and management;
- Human–AI co-creation, creativity, and meaning-making;
- Sustainable knowledge systems and responsible knowledge governance;
- AI-supported organizational learning and decision-making;
- Knowledge management for sustainable innovation and social impact;
- GenAI in education, learning technologies, and knowledge-based education;
- AI literacy, future skills, and human-centered learning environments;
- Trust, authenticity, authorship, and transparency in AI-generated knowledge;
- Data ethics, privacy, accountability, and responsible AI governance;
- Green digital transformation, sustainable AI infrastructures, and knowledge technologies;
- GenAI for public good, SDGs, community resilience, and knowledge equity;
- Methodological innovations for studying AI-enabled knowledge systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Knowledge is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
