Topical Collection Information

Dear Colleagues,

Until now, a spherical shape has been considered one of the most promising for the design of nanoparticles as new efficient and safe drug delivery systems, due to both the isotropic release of the therapeutic agent, as well as the high surface/volume ratio.

However, limited cellular penetration could reduce the effectiveness of many treatments and, therefore, an ideal carrier also has to enhance the cellular uptake of the drug. Geometry plays a key role in the cellular uptake of nanoparticles, which involves several endocytic and cellular association mechanisms, and the breaking of the geometric symmetry is crucial to trigger the particle rotation during the internalization process.

This Topical Collection aims to focus the attention on all the aspects related to “the breaking of symmetry” in the design and synthesis of devices for drug delivery and their interaction mechanisms with cells and tissues.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts for the topical collection can be submitted online at by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on this website. The topical collection considers regular research articles, short communications and review articles. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The article processing charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 550 CHF (Swiss Francs). English correction and/or formatting fees will be charged in certain cases for those articles accepted for publication that require extensive additional formatting and/or English corrections. For further details see here.
