Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Heart failure (HF) is a major public health problem. The prevalence of HF is strongly associated with advancing age, but there is limited evidence about the management of HF in this population. Essentially, the lack of evidence arises from the under-representation of elderly patients in clinical trials, the increasing prevalence of  HF with preserved ejection fraction in the elderly, the difficulty in accurate diagnosis, and the presence of multiple co-morbidities. As a result, there are relevant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in the clinical practice of physicians who treat these patients. The aim of this Special Issue is to offer an updated review of the pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapeutic measures in older patients with HF, providing useful recommendations based, when possible, on clinical guidelines, or otherwise on the opinion of experts who contribute to this publication. Although there is a lack of evidence, elderly patients with HF exist and we must treat them.
