Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Noise exposure, a hazard that, despite being recorded in antiquity, still makes a significant contribution to disabling hearing loss in adults, thought to be 16% worldwide. Apart from the direct physiological effect on the cochlea, noise can cause stress and interfere with communicating safely. Noise can also be regarded as a ‘sentinel’ exposure in industry: It is easily measured, there are relatively simple methods of noise elimination and reduction at a source, minimisation through the use of hearing protective devices is widely used, and the health effects can be readily detected through audiology. Hearing conservation programmes (HCPs) can also be regarded as a model for disease prevention.

This Special Issue will focus on noise as a health stressor. As such, we are interested in the spectrum of health effects caused by noise, but particularly about prevention. The latter will include noise management strategies and interventions. We are particularly interested in the use of hearing protection, including how to assess their effectiveness and fit, along with the behavioural issues surrounding their use. Additionally of interest is the use of novel methods to detect early noise induced hearing loss, either through behavioural methods or otoacoustic emissions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
