Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
As the Editor-in-Chief of Hydrology, it is my great pleasure to announce that the winner of the 2019 Hydrology Travel Award is Mr. Giovanny Mosquera, MSc, who is a PhD student in Prof. Dr. Patricio Crespo’s laboratory at the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Sciences, Universidad de Cuenca, Ecuador. On behalf of Hydrology, Mr. Mosquera will receive 800 Swiss Francs towards travel expenses to attend the 27th International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) General Assembly in Montreal, Canada, on July 8–18, 2019.
Mr. Giovanny Mosquera conducts research in hydrology with particular focus on the key role water plays in the socioeconomic development of tropical regions. Giova’s research aims to link water quantity and quality to catchment landscape descriptors and successfully tackle the challenge of integrating different research disciplines to provide answers for key hydrologic questions about runoff generation in tropical montane ecosystems. His research on the hydrology of high-elevation environments has major implications for the socioeconomic development of surrounding and downstream populations. Giova is already an accomplished young researcher in many ways, with several publications in some of the top journals in the field of hydrology and water resources, as well as contributions to teaching and professional societies. He has recently been elected as a member of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) Early Career Committee (ECC) to represent the International Commission on Tracers, outstanding recognition for a researcher from an underrepresented region of the world, Latin America. On behalf of Hydrology, I wish Giova the best in the upcoming 2019 IUGG General Assembly and in all his future endeavors.
