Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

As a result of climate change, an increasing tendency of the yearly mean temperature together with more and more frequently occurring extreme events are observed, which influence the conditions of sustainable viticulture. Wine production takes place over relatively narrow geographical and climatic ranges, most often in mid-latitude regions that are prone to high climatic variability. Furthermore, individual winegrape varieties have even narrower climate ranges, which further limits the areas suitable for their cultivation. This makes grapes more susceptible to both short-term climate variability and long-term climate changes.

To face climate change, new technologies are needed for sustainable viticulture. A better understanding of grapevine physiological processes and metabolism is also essential.

The purpose of this Special Issue on “Effects of Climate Change to the Vitivinicultural Sector” is to present studies on the effects, or methods and innovations that have been successfully used to face the challenges of climate change.
