Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Bio-signal and bio-image processing

The acquisition and processing of bio-signals and bio-images are important means to assist medical diagnoses and treatments. Traditional signal processing research faces various challenges, including 1) limited data from different modalities; 2) the performance of machine learning models based on signal or image data is relatively poor in some complex scenarios; and 3) medical assessment and intervention may lack corresponding clinical validation.

With technology advancement, it is now possible to combine effective tasks using virtual reality, new scales, mobile gaming, etc. Artificial intelligence, neural networks, cybernetics, robotics, man–machine interfaces and other system theories could also enhance bio-signal and bio-image processing.

This research topic, therefore, aims to summarize the foundations and technologies of bio-signal and bio-image processing. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Entropy;
  • Voice signal processing;
  • Information theory concepts;
  • Ultrasound/CT/MR image segmentation/registration/classification;
  • Optimization for estimation and modeling;
  • Imaging techniques;
  • Virtual surgery.
