Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, controlled objects in engineering have been extended to various complex systems, so it is difficult to establish the mathematical models of such systems. Even if the approximate models can be obtained, it is still difficult to meet the needs for real-time control. As a consequence, the conventional control methods that depend heavily on precise models of plants are no longer effective or applicable in many complex systems, such as intelligent robot systems, complex industrial process control systems, aerospace control systems, and social-economic management system, etc., which speeds up the developments of intelligent control. Different from conventional control, the controlled objects of intelligent control do not need an accurate mathematical model, but can have some complex characteristics for complex task requirements, such as multivariable, strong coupling, uncertainty, and high nonlinearity. Intelligent control has developed many forms, such as fuzzy control, neural control, expert systems and genetic algorithm, etc., and it has been one of the most effective tools for motor drive systems in complex situations. The applications of intelligent control in motor drive systems mainly make use of the intelligent control technology to overcome its parameters time-varying, load disturbances, and system nonlinearities, which will further improve the robustness of such systems. Despite these observations, there are many open and challenging issues to be addressed in both theoretical frameworks and practical applications of intelligent methods.

This Special Issue on “Intelligent Control and Its Application in Motor Drive Systems” is to provide promising investigations on various intelligent control methods, especially with applications in motor drive systems, and also to exploit potential issues and challenges in future studies of related areas. This Special Issue will cover, but is not limited to, the following topics:
