Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Power systems across the globe are experiencing an increased integration of renewable energy resources, demanding power system operators to explore and enforce new grid-forming and grid-supporting regulations and requirements to ensure the quality and reliability of the grid. This is particularly challenging in relatively weaker networks with a higher percentage of residential renewable energy systems, such as rooftop photovoltaic systems. Hence, renewable energy systems are required to be equipped with advanced features and control strategies to provide the required supporting functionalities to the grid, such as power reserve control, frequency response, reactive power control, etc. There lies a great opportunity for novel topologies, advanced control algorithms, new communication and data management methodologies, and autonomous operating strategies that can be implemented in power converters for renewable energy resources.

Key areas including but not limited to:

  • Power converter topologies for renewable energy resources with and grid-forming and/or grid-supporting functionalities
  • Advanced control algorithms for grid-forming and grid-supporting using renewable energy resources
  • New flexible power point tracking strategies to provide power reserve and power control in renewable energy resources
  • Impact of grid-forming and grid-supporting renewable energy resources in power system operation
  • Optimized operation of renewable energy systems in weak grids
  • Control of grid-connected power converters
  • Integration of wind and solar energy
  • New methods of power system operation and control
  • Communication and data management in renewable energy management
  • Economic and policy adaptations to manage increased penetration of renewable resources

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
