Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Electron transfer proteins and redox enzymes, including heme proteins, cupredoxins and iron-sulphur proteins, are involved in a plethora of metabolic processes and are essential for life. In addition, metallo-proteins are excellent candidates for application in the field of electroanalysis, electrosynthesis and electro-biocatalysis. In the past decades, they have been largely exploited in many applications thanks to the use of protein with tailored size and structure to yield the desired physico-chemical and catalytic properties.
These species are extremely appealing as versatile tools to produce functional hybrid materials for applications in many novel and advanced areas. For this reason, they are raising an increasing interest among scientists in the fields of physical chemistry, biochemistry, surface science, catalysis, (bio)molecules assembly and adhesion, environment, health, chemical synthesis.
This Special Issue is intended for publication of both original works and reviews in the field of the electron transfer processes and related application of metallo-proteins. Manuscripts concerning the applications of hybrid materials, biomedicine, removal of pollutants and hazardous chemicals are welcome, as well as basic experimental or computational studies on the functional and structural properties of these proteins. The purpose of this issue is to offer a broad overview of the state of the art in the field of electrochemistry of metallo-proteins, through an interdisciplinary approach ranging from biochemistry to chemistry, including technology, medicine, materials and industrial applications.
