Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Architecture, urban design and urban planning is decision-making that affects people’s everyday lives and has a deep impact on society. Teaching future architects and urban designers has to train them not only how to build and, therefore physically change space, but also to understand social interaction. Education in architecture and planning, has to take into consideration that students’ laboratory is real space and, therefore, has to bridge between theory and practice. Now, these fundamental requirements for education in architecture, urban design and planning are further challenged by the impact of the pandemic as there is no doubt that Covid-19-related online teaching has changed the way we teach in higher education forever. Maybe it is a good time to rethink teaching matters we got used to for decades. Should we just return to old practices or do we need something new? Which experiments and what kind of innovation happened during the online teaching forced by the pandemic? What should be kept, further developed and finally become a permanent element of teaching architecture and urban design? Manuscripts can be theoretical or applied, state-of-the-science reviews or individual case studies. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • experimental teaching methods;
  • non-traditional areas of designing activities;
  • research by design in education;
  • initiatives of cooperation with external institutions;
  • comparative research on results of educational process;
  • graduates’ competences evaluation. We look forward to receiving your contributions.
