13–15 December 2021, Florence, Italy
The XV International Congress on Education and Innovation

The society of the 21st century is characterized by phenomena such as globalization, interconnection and hyper-information. Future citizens of this society must possess the necessary skills to discern, communicate and create content promoting in all processes the incorporation of ethical and civic values.

In 2015, the UN approved the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, with the intention of stopping the gaps and gradually closing them. In this way, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals are presented as a master plan covering the most painful global challenges for the knowledge society, and here we will approach Goal 4 of quality education. Education enables upward socioeconomic mobility and is key to escaping poverty and closing social gaps, but about one-fifth of the world's school-age population is out of school.

This situation is exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to the temporary closure of schools, affecting more than 90% of students worldwide. This situation has impacted the quality of their learning and has drastically changed their lives, especially those of the most vulnerable and marginalized children.

The use of active learning methodologies with the use of information and communication technologies is essential, as they improve the perception of learning and facilitate the teaching process. Therefore, this special issue seeks experiences and research that address issues related to active methodologies, online education, learning communities, gender equity, measures to reduce school dropout and school literacy experiences and sustainability vis-à-vis COVID-19, among other aspects addressed in the CIEI21 themes.

From this perspective, the proposal of this XV International Congress on Education and Innovation comes to cover the need to offer a meeting space to provide innovative proposals, research and practical work that promote inclusive, active educational practices, promoting education in technology from a more human vision and for people. It is also an exceptional event for professional recycling, the opening to students of a different and open proposal for learning and training.

With this intention, the XV International Congress of Education and Innovation is presented, trying to combine the initiation to research and educational practice of students with the experience of those professionals who are already active, thus constituting an important reference for their learning and subsequent exercise as professionals in a more efficient and competent way.

This event is organized by the non-profit Association for Research and Promotion of Education in the Digital Society (PromoEDUCA), in coordination with the Università degli Studi di Firenze (UNIFI, Florence, Italy) and the Department of Didactics and School Organization of the University of Granada, with the collaboration of the research groups HUM-672, SEJ-604 and SEJ-607. From the organization, it is intended that the Congress is identified by its flexible, close, dynamic, serious, functional, updated and, especially, by a high quality of attention to the participant.

The XV International Congress on Education and Innovation will be held on December 13, 14 and 15, 2021 at the Università degli Studi di Firenze (UNIFI, Florence, Italy).
