Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focuses on the evolving dynamics of international migration in Europe, emphasizing the economic, social, and policy implications of recent global and regional shocks. Its scope encompasses both traditional physical migration and emerging forms of digital migration, whereby individuals participate in foreign labor markets remotely, enabled by digital technologies and platform-mediated work. The purpose of the Special Issue is to provide a comprehensive platform for empirical and theoretical research that analyzes the interplay between migration patterns, labor market outcomes, remittances, demographic change, and regional economic development in Europe.
Situated within the existing literature, this Special Issue builds on research on post-pandemic migration shifts, labor economics, and forced displacement studies, while extending these frameworks to incorporate digital mobility and its economic consequences. By integrating studies on COVID-19 impacts, geopolitical conflicts, and the rise of remote work, the Special Issue addresses the limitations of traditional migration models and contributes to a better understanding of contemporary migration phenomena. Contributions employing advanced econometric methods, gravity models, and data-driven approaches are particularly encouraged, offering insights into both theoretical and policy-relevant dimensions of European migration.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-anonymized peer-review process. Economies is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
