This Section focuses on mechanistic research into the origins, developmental mechanisms and underlying physiological abnormalities of all forms of diabetes and associated metabolic disorders. It welcomes original research and mechanistic analyses exploring genetic, immunological, molecular, cellular and metabolic drivers of diabetes, as well as the pathophysiological processes contributing to insulin resistance, pancreatic β-cell dysfunction, glycometabolic dysregulation and disease progression across type 1, type 2, gestational diabetes and related complications. This Section enriches the diabetes basic science and mechanistic studies, laying a theoretical foundation for the development of targeted therapeutic and preventive strategies.
