Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, the wearable sensor field has been exploding with new technologies and applications. To name a few applications, wearables have been utilized or proposed for use in healthcare; sport, fitness, and wellness; safety and security; communications and ubiquitous computing, as well as in fashion. By definition, wearable sensors are intended to be worn on the human body, or integrated with clothing, footwear, or accessories. Human factors in wearable design rank as high as the application itself. The devices should be practical, socially acceptable, easy to use and maintain, and present minimal or no privacy concerns to the user.

The goal of this Special Issue is to look at the human-centered design of wearables. Of special interest are original research works that focus on human factors, such as integration of the wearables into the everyday wear items; design of maintenance-free devices; design of socially-acceptable devices; integration of multiple sensor modalities to minimize the wear burden; technological innovations in flexible, conformal and epidermal wearable sensors; design of wearables for social communication or expression of individuality; interfacing to the human body; and privacy issues connected to wearable design.

The manuscripts submitted to the Special Issue should identify the state-of-the-art, challenges and future directions in the human-centered design of wearables.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Designs is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
