Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In recent years, inflammation has been implicated in a growing array of neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions. In contrast with the more typical immune-mediated conditions, like autoimmune encephalitis, where the adaptive immune system (T and B Cells) is involved, perturbation of the innate immunity appears to be a feature in a range of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders like autism spectrum disorders. However, it remains unclear as to whether this reflects a neurobiological or immunobiological phenomenon. We are starting to glimpse early data at the potential for immunomodulation in attenuating some of the complex symptoms that manifest in these conditions. For this Special Issue of Children, we invite submissions describing the complex role of inflammation in childhood neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders.
