Prof. Dr. Panayiotis Dimitrakopoulos Appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of Section “Ecology” in Biology

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Panayiotis Dimitrakopoulos, from the University of the Aegean, has been appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of the Section “Ecology” in Biology (ISSN: 2079-7737).

Prof. Dr. Dimitrakopoulos’s research mainly focuses on biodiversity effects on ecosystem processes in Mediterranean ecosystems, plant community ecology, serpentine ecology, and nature conservation policy.

During his past tenure as a member of the Editorial Board, Prof. Dr. Panayiotis Dimitrakopoulos was actively involved in all aspects of the journal, including manuscript pre-checks, peer review and decision making, and he has edited several successful Special Issues. We look forward to further successful collaboration with Prof. Dr. Dimitrakopoulos in his new editorial role.

The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dr. Panayiotis Dimitrakopoulos, who shared his vision for the journal with us, as well as his views of the research area and Open Access publishing:

1. What appealed to you about the journal that made you want to take the role as its Section Editor-in-Chief?
I am honored to be asked to contribute to the success of a new Section in one of the best journals in this particular scientific field and flattered to be invited. It's an opportunity to contribute to my wider research community and learn things at the same time.

2. What is your vision for the Section?
My vision is for “Ecology” to find its niche in this journal.

3. What does the future of this field of research look like?
Ecology is called upon to provide answers to major environmental problems of the 21st century. For this reason, the production of innovative knowledge by talented people is required.

4. What do you think of the development of Open Access in the publishing field?
Open Access is a useful tool, but it must ensure equality among all (both authors and readers).

We warmly welcome Prof. Dr. Panayiotis Dimitrakopoulos as he starts his new role as Section Editor-in-Chief, and we look forward to him leading Biology to achieve many more milestones.
