Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Air Quality Assessment
This special issue belongs to the section "Environmental Sciences".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Due to the extensive use of fossil fuels to meet society’s growing demands, carbon dioxide (CO2) and relevant greenhouse gases (GHG), such as methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O), have emerged globally as the main contributors to global warming and its associated climate change impacts and extreme events. In addition, some polluting gases (e.g., NO2, SO2 and CO) and particulate matters (e.g. PM2.5, PM1) are emitted alongside GHGs during combustion processes. Consequently, controlling and mitigating emissions from transport, industry, and energy generation represent key global priorities to address both climate change and public health challenges.
This Special Issue of Applied Sciences aims to publish contemporary research presenting innovative contributions to the mitigation and control of GHG and atmospheric pollutant emissions. In addition, this edition seeks to highlight scientific articles that address chemical processes and physical effects in the atmosphere, as well as their impacts on human health, air quality, climate change, and ecosystems.
Submissions related to, but not limited to, the following research areas are welcome:
- Energy efficiency strategies for mitigating GHG and atmospheric pollutant emissions;
- Adoption of biomass, bioenergy, and renewable energy sources to replace fossil fuels;
- Sustainable transport systems (passenger and freight);
- Top-down, bottom-up, and combined/complementary approach for atmospheric pollutant and GEE inventories;
- Modeling of atmospheric pollution processes, spatial patterns, or temporal trends with clear environmental and/or public health relevance;
- Development of new techniques for measuring GHGs or atmospheric pollutants and examining their occurrenc, transport, behavior, and environmental effects;
- Air pollution and health studies integrating datasets subject to confounding, including case–control, cross-sectional, and ecological studies.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue and look forward to receiving your submissions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
