4–7 September 2019 The 16th International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology

the island of Rhodes, Greece

The 16th International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology will be held in the island of Rhodes, Greece from 4 to 7 September 2019.

CEST biennial series has become one of the worldwide leading environmental events gathering experts, scientists, entrepreneurs as well as representatives of public administration and social initiatives presenting state-of-the-art research and addressing emerging environmental issues. A selection of topics for which the Scientific and Programme Committee is particularly seeking contributions can be found https://cest2019.gnest.org/thematic-areas-and-topics.

The previous event, CEST2017, was the most successful event since the series was initially launched in 1989, with 460 participants from 75 countries originating from 6 continents (Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America and Australia). The programme included 415 oral and 253 poster presentations from 25 unique research areas. Participants also benefited from the interaction with 15 distinguished scientists that were invited and delivered keynote and plenary talks. CEST2019, coincides with the celebration of the 30 years anniversary (1989-2019) of CEST series and we are aiming to make it a memorable event.

All the papers that are selected for either oral or poster presentation undergo a review process. As a result of the improving quality of the papers in previous conferences, their proceedings have been included in databases, such as Science Citation Index (ISI) and SRCosmos. Since 2015, the papers that are presented in CEST, are submitted to cooperating journals for review and publication in special issues.

The conference is organized by the University of the Aegean (Greece) together with the South Aegean Region and is supported by the University of Salerno (Italy) and the Imperial College London (UK). The main organizer is the multi-disciplinary Global NEST (Network of Environmental Science and Technology); an international scientific movement that has been successfully developing for the last 29 years with members from more than 60 countries. Global NEST is an international scientific movement focusing on innovative environmental issues.

During CEST2019 you will have the opportunity to:

  • present and discuss your research with scientists from around the world

12–14 September 2017 2nd International RILEM/COST Conference on Early Age Cracking and Serviceability in Cement-based Materials and Structures EAC-02

Brussels, Belgium

On behalf of the organizers, we would like to warmly invite you to attend 2nd International RILEM/COST Conference on Early Age Cracking and Serviceability in Cement-based Materials and Structures EAC-02 to be held in Brussels, Belgium during 12–14 September 2017. This International RILEM Conference follows the RILEM International Conference on Early Age Cracking in Cementitious Systems (EAC’01) organized in March, 2001, in Haifa, Israel, by Prof. Konstantin Kovler. The EAC’01 conference was dedicated to early age cracking in cementitious systems, one of the most prominent topics tackled by COST Action TU1404. Indeed, this Action includes a working group 1 related to the testing of cement based materials and RRT+ (with group priorities on fresh properties and setting, chemical and microstructural characterization, transport properties and boundary effects, mechanical properties and creep, volume stability and fracture properties and cracking), a working group 2 related to modeling and benchmarking (with group priorities on microstructural modelling, multiscale modelling, macroscopic modelling, probabilistic modelling and benchmarking calculations) and a working group 3 related to recommendations and standards. It is the reason why, to continue the tradition of the specific conference EAC’01, the idea came naturally to organize ‘EAC-02’ in conjonction with the annual event of the COST Action TU1404.

We hope you are encouraged and look forward to hosting you at EAC-02.

8–10 November 2018 Annual Meeting of the German Society for Biomaterials

Braunschweig, Germany

We are delighted to invite you to the annual conference of the DGBM e.V. in Braunschweig. The conference will take place from 8 – 10 November at the „Forum“ of the Helmholtz-Center for Infection Research.

In the tradition of the DGBM being a forum for trans-disciplinary research, we once again would like to welcome a mix of scientists from various disciplines together with clinicians and company representatives with an interest in the development and application of biomaterials. We hope that the meeting will provide an exciting venue to initiate new ideas and collaborations. The DGBM highly values young scientists experience and we envisage this meeting will also serve as a platform to pave the way for the next generation of biomaterials researchers.

We will cover all aspects of biomaterials research with a special emphasis on cell-material-interactions and biocompatibility of the materials, implants for tissue transition, clinical applications and translation.

Implants and other biomaterials brought into contact with body tissue bear the general risk of a formation of bacterial biofilms and implant-associated infections, which can result in a loss of the implant function and severe health problems for the patient. Biofilms and implant-associated infections therefore will be a main topic of the DGBM 2018.

A preceding workshop covers different aspects of a biomaterial development. The contributions from chemistry, engineering, biology, pharmacy and medicine to this development will be exemplified by a high functional implant, which can be used for insitu tissue engineering.

We very much look forward to welcome you to Braunschweig.

15–17 September 2010 Implementation in Inter- and Transdisciplinary Research, Practice and Teaching

Geneva, Switzerland

In a knowledge society, research questions, processes and results cannot be disconnected from everyday practices. Politicians, funding bodies and society at large increasingly demand of researchers to propose efficient ways of how to use abstract findings in concrete situations and as a common good. From the very start, implementation strategies should therefore include processes of embedding the research in its social and scientific contexts, recursiveness and negotiation with non-academic actors, and testing the expected impact through ‘real-world’ experiments. How exactly to bring research results to fruition, integrate theory and practice and build truly participative collaborations are key issues of inter- and transdisciplinarity. Keynotes includes experts in the fields of public health, new media, urban planning, sustainability, action research. Please visit our website for further information. Deadline for paper/poster/workshop submissions: 3 May 2010.

22–27 July 2012 15th International Conference on Experimental Mechanics

Porto, Portugal

ICEM 15 is the fifteenth international gathering of scientists and engineers interested in the topic of experimental mechanics and its application to mechanical design, materials engineering, and engineering mechanics planned for July 22-27, 2012 in Porto, Portugal. The first conference of this series was held in Delft (The Netherlands, in 1959, and the last one took place in Poitiers (France) in July 2010. In the meantime, the 10th EM meeting was held in Portugal (Lisbon), in 1994, which I had also the privilege to chair. All these EM  meetings resulted from the belief that of those disciplines associated with advanced product design and manufacture, experimental mechanics techniques have been making continuous and significant advances during the years. Important and dramatic improvements in systems and component design can be made by the use of the latest advances in experimental mechanics techniques applied to energy systems, structures and materials. Their effect on the environment is significant and will help in avoiding global warming and harmful CO2 emissions.

It is therefore the objective of this meeting to provide a forum for the discussion and dissemination of recent advances in the field of Experimental Mechanics. The goal is to enable mechanical, aeronautical, civil, automotive, biomedical, environmental, and nuclear engineers, researchers and scientists to exchange ideas on the different topics of the conference.
