Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are unavoidable by-products of aerobic metabolism that play a dual role in reproductive biology: at controlled levels they act as essential signaling molecules, while in excess they cause oxidative damage to lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Maintaining redox balance is critical across the reproductive continuum—from gametogenesis and epididymal maturation to oocyte competence, embryo development, implantation and pregnancy maintenance. Disruption of redox homeostasis is implicated in male and female infertility, reduced assisted reproduction success and pregnancy complications. Gametes and reproductive tissues rely on tightly regulated antioxidant defenses; when these are overwhelmed, oxidative injury impairs gamete quality and embryo viability. In assisted reproductive technology (ART), laboratory conditions, culture media and handling procedures can influence ROS levels and thereby affect outcomes. Emerging research highlights biomarkers of redox status, adaptive repair pathways and targeted antioxidant strategies that may improve reproductive resilience. This Special Issue welcomes original research and reviews on the molecular mechanisms of ROS generation and signaling in reproductive tissues; redox biomarkers and diagnostics; the optimization of ART laboratory practices to minimize oxidative injury; preclinical and clinical studies of antioxidant interventions and translational work linking basic redox biology to fertility outcomes.
Submissions spanning basic science, translational research and clinical studies are encouraged.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Antioxidants is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
