Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue will aim to build and expand on our present-day knowledge of animal welfare. Currently, there is a range of different views of humankind’s moral responsibilities towards animals. We are seeking contributions that attempt to combine at least some of these ethical theories. Since welfare ultimately depends on how animals feel, papers that describe new techniques of assessing states of suffering and states of pleasure will be welcomed. Assessing an animal’s welfare over its lifetime is also a topic that has been problematical and papers suggesting novel solutions to this are sought. Finally, papers that deal with more practical aspects of welfare such as methods of keeping and interacting with animals that maximize welfare will be welcomed.
