Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The study of animal personality, exploring the role that inter-individual differences play in behavior, is a vibrant and influential field, spanning a broad range of disciplines including, among others, psychology, zoology, conservation and welfare, biology, and anthropology.

This Special Issue aims to highlight new scientific developments, ideas and methods in the field of animal personality that promote an understanding of (i) personality as a source of behavioral variation with consequences for animal sociality, cognition, behavior, welfare and conservation, and (ii) factors and mechanisms that shape or drive this variation. We welcome submissions studying individual differences and/or personality in broad taxa and settings (e.g., wild/captive) to this Special Issue titled ‘The Intersection Between Animal Personality, Cognition and Behavior.’ We particularly encourage the following types of submissions:

  • Empirical articles involving multiple-species (comparative) research, single species studies, and/or across contexts (captive, semi-wild, and wild);
  • Literature reviews, particularly those pointing to how the field can continue to move forward;
  • Commentary and theoretical articles, focusing on methodological perspectives, e.g., innovations in measurement, future directions;
  • Protocol papers, with an emphasis on methods / methodological approaches;
  • Human research in the context of comparative cognition and behavior.
