Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue contains extended papers from the 1st International Conference on Smart Innovations for Medicine and Engineering (SIME' 2026), 2–4 November 2026, Sousse, Tunisia (https://sime-conf.org).

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep learning and data-driven modeling, are transforming the analysis of biomedical signals and medical images. From electroencephalography (EEG) and electrocardiography (ECG) to MRI, CT, ultrasound, and microscopy, AI-powered signal and image processing techniques are enabling more accurate diagnostics, early disease detection, personalized treatment planning, and real-time health monitoring.

This special session aims to bring together researchers, clinicians, and industry experts working at the intersection of signal processing, computer vision, and biomedical sciences. The session will highlight novel algorithms, robust learning frameworks, multimodal data integration approaches, mathematical modelling and analysis, advances in digital signal processing and computer vision, and interpretable AI models designed for biological research and healthcare applications.

By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, this session seeks to address both methodological innovations and real-world deployment challenges, ultimately contributing to safer, more reliable, and clinically impactful AI solutions in healthcare.

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to: 

  • Deep learning for biomedical signal analysis;
  • Medical image reconstruction, segmentation, and enhancement;
  • Multimodal biological data fusion;
  • Explainable and trustworthy AI in healthcare;
  • AI for early disease detection and prognosis;
  • Wearable and edge AI systems for health monitoring;
  • Federated and privacy-preserving learning for medical data.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Algorithms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
