Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

An increasing global population requires increasing demands on food resources. One of the main sources of quality protein in the form of meat and milk is ruminants. From an overall point of view, ruminants have a very important role in the agricultural sector. In addition to the production of food sources, they have a landscape-forming function, they bind together jobs in marginal areas and enable the conversion of by-products (normally waste) arising from the processing of food for human consumption. In fact, ruminants are exceptional in being extremely efficient in converting plant-based nutrient sources into high-quality animal fats and proteins. Constant breeding activity has led to an increase in animal production, which is affected by several factors that have a direct but also an indirect effect on the health of animals and the quality of animal products. One of the factors affecting the production health of animals is nutrition. The quality of volume feeds (silage, haylage, hays) and feed rations (diet composition) are extremely crucial; however, they can be affected by environmental conditions, which have been in the last decade very unpredictable (increased temperatures, decreasing rainfall, etc.). Furthermore, environmental conditions (microclimatic conditions, pollution, etc.) are also affecting the ruminants directly, and are decreasing the welfare of animals. These factors are worsening the health and production status of animals by decreasing the reproduction performance, which are important for the survival of the farms.

Therefore, the Special Issue is dedicated to manuscript in the disciplines from the different research fields focused on the production of quality feeds, composition of daily diets, health of ruminants, reproduction of ruminants, welfare and production of sustainable animal products and their quality

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
