Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Optimization generally involves getting the best performance out of something and using resources in the best way. It is the action of developing activity as efficiently as possible with the fewest resources and in the shortest possible time. Optimization applies in several areas. In this Special Issue, particular interest will be given to the areas of Big Data, IoT, Smart Cities, Cloud, and Fog Computing.  Mathematically speaking, optimization is concerned with analyzing and modeling a given problem's constraints to find the solution that maximizes or minimizes a function to be optimized.

The scope of the Special Issue covers various problems faced in reality and their appropriate innovative solutions and recent advancements in the fields of Applied Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, IoT, Smart Cities, Cloud, and Fog Computing, including (but not limited to):

  • Combinatorial optimization.
  • Network optimization.
  • Multi-criteria optimization.
  • Optimal control.
  • Intelligent data sensing and collection.
  • Intelligent data processing and mining.
  • Discrete optimization.
  • Multi-criteria optimization.
  • Time complexity analysis.
  • Implicit enumeration and branch-and-bound.
  • Dynamic programming.
  • Heuristics and meta-heuristics.
  • Linear and integer programming.
  • Deterministic scheduling.
  • Stochastic scheduling.
  • Batch scheduling.
  • Big-Data-based technologies and algorithms for data acquisition, processing, and mining.
  • Security and privacy issues.
  • IoT-based data sensing, processing, mining, and communication.
  • Artificial-Intelligence-driven analytics of data.
  • Data acquisition techniques (RFID, Sensors, …).
  • Routing and transportation.
  • Packing and partitioning.
  • Communication, networking, optimization, and performance measuring of trustworthy systems.
  • Smart-cities-related optimization issues.
  • Big-Data-related optimization issues.
  • IoT-related optimization issues.
  • Cloud-computing-related optimization issues.
  • Fog-computing-related optimization issues.
  • Cybersecurity-related optimization issues.

This Special Issue is open to all authors, although it is primarily meant to serve as a collection of extended versions of selected papers presented at ICSCA2022 (https://icsca2022.com/). Selected papers from ICSCA2022 and all external contributions in this field are welcome in this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Big Data and Cognitive Computing is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
