Dr. Alberto Aiolfi, MD, FACS, FEBS (UGI), is a Consultant Foregut and General Surgeon at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio, University of Milan, Italy. He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 2012 and completed his General Surgery residency with honors in 2018. During his training, he undertook a one-year Research Fellowship at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the European Board of Surgery in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery (FEBS-UGI). His clinical practice focuses on minimally invasive and robotic upper gastrointestinal surgery, with expertise in benign and malignant esophageal diseases, including achalasia, diverticula, GERD, paraesophageal hernia, and esophageal and gastric cancer. He also performs advanced digestive endoscopy and abdominal ultrasonography. His research focuses on esophageal surgery, minimally invasive and robotic techniques, surgical oncology, digestive endoscopy, perioperative care, and evidence synthesis. Dr. Aiolfi has authored over 240 peer-reviewed publications, with a Scopus H-index of 39, and contributes to international collaborations, scientific meetings, peer review, and surgical education. His academic mission is to advance esophageal surgery through patient care, research, education, and evidence-based practice.
