Lee Clare is research lecturer in prehistoric archaeology at the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) Istanbul Department. He received his MA from the University of Cologne in 2005, with a major in prehistoric archaeology. Following the completion of his PhD at the same institution in 2013, he joined the Orient Department of the DAI in Berlin as a post-doctoral fellow. Since 2015, he has been leading DAI's fieldwork and research at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Göbekli Tepe in Southeastern Türkiye. His areas of academic interest include the Neolithic of Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, absolute chronologies, culture-climate interaction, prehistoric conflict and cognitive archaeology.
