Author Biographies

Andreas Buder holds a doctorate in natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat., HfBK Dresden) with a focus on materials science in the context of cultural heritage. Since 2006, he has been conducting research at the Institute for Materiality in Art and Culture at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, where he was head of the Conservation and Restoration program from 2008 to 2025. Since 2025, he has been working as a lecturer, member of the management team, and researcher. His research covers the kinetics and mechanisms of material degradation, aging processes of organic materials, chemiluminescence in solids, life time predictions, conservation strategies, and applied scientific analysis. He has many years of experience in laboratory research, museum materials science, and the science-based development of conservation methods.
