Paul Gareth Weller is a dual British–German citizen who, in formal retirement from academic employment, now lives mainly, but not only at his home in Germany, spending several months of each year also at his home in the UK. He is Research Fellow in Religion and Society at Regent's Park College, University of Oxford, where he is also an Associate Member of its Faculty of Theology and Religion. He is also Emeritus Professor at the University of Derby where, from 1999 until his retirement from full-time employment in 2016, he was Professor of Inter-Religious Relations as well as having, variously, held posts as Head of Division of Humanities and Social Sciences and Acting University Head of Research. He is Visiting Professor at Coventry University's Centre for Peace and Security. He holds an MA from the University of Oxford; MPhil from the University of Manchester; PhD from the University of Leeds; and DLitt from the University of Derby. Since 2024 he has been a member of the Interfaith Council for Security of Places of Worship in Europe. From 2008 he has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Dialogue Society in the UK, and since 1990 he has been a member of the Interreligiose Arbeitstelle in Germany.
