Dr. Nirmal Ghimire is an Assistant Professor in the Watson College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He completed his Ph.D. in Education with a TESOL concentration at the University of Central Florida and holds an MIT MicroMasters credential in Statistics and Data Science. Dr. Ghimire has led interdisciplinary research initiatives, including the Artificial Intelligence for Data-Enhanced Teacher Preparation and Professional Development (AIDE) project, which applies machine learning and natural language processing to identify effective instructional practices for multilingual learners. He has published peer-reviewed articles and scholarly essays across applied linguistics, literacy, and teacher education venues and has contributed to grant-funded research in teacher preparation and literacy education. His teaching spans TESOL, applied linguistics, second language acquisition, and research methods, and his research interests include AI-supported reading comprehension, data-informed teacher education, English learner equity, and interdisciplinary literacy development.
