Fei Yuan earned, from the University of Science and Technology Beijing(USTB), a PhD in metallurgical engineering. He is now the head of the research laboratory in Technical Support Center for Prevention and Control of Disastrous Accidents in Metal Smelting of USTB. His work has resulted in over 20 peer-reviewed research papers.
