Newman Siu Kwan Sze is a Professor in Health Sciences and a Canada Research Chair in Mechanisms of Health and Disease. Currently, he is at the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, Brock University, St. Catharines, ON, Canada. His research interests are developing new approaches to elucidating molecular mechanisms of health and disease; understanding degenerative protein modifications as molecular mediators of biological aging; advancing immunotherapy for cardiovascular disease by targeting isoDGR-modified proteins; identifying new drug targets for cancer therapy and tumour prevention; and defining molecular mediators underpinning early asymptomatic neurodegeneration. He has 75 papers publications with 1212 citations and an h-index of 18 (Scopus, 21 November 2023) in these areas.
Evangelia Tsiani is a Professor in Health Sciences and is currently at the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, Brock University, St. Catharines, ON, Canada. Her research focus is understanding the intracellular signaling pathways that are activated and control muscle glucose transport, metabolism, and the defects contributing to insulin resistance/diabetes. An additional research focus is understanding cancer biology and the defects leading to enhanced cell proliferation. She has 65 papers publications with 3201 citations and an h-index of 31 (Scopus, 21 November 2023) in these areas. Her goal/aim is to find food components, nutraceuticals, or functional foods that could modulate certain signaling pathways and be used against insulin resistance/diabetes and cancer.
