Dr. Silas Udenze is a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Sociology, University of Toronto, Canada. He earned an Excellent Cum Laude PhD in Humanities and Communication from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain. His interdisciplinary work focuses on contemporary and past socio-political movements in Africa, mainly through theoretical lenses of digital activism and memory. Dr. Udenzes’s work occupies a unique space at the margins of media/communication studies, anthropology, and sociology, incorporating non-media-centric paradigms, particularly cultural and mnemonic dimensions. His works have been published in Media, War and Conflict, Africa Spectrum, and Memory Studies, to name a few. Dr Silas has presented papers at top conferences such as Memory Studies Association, Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR), the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), International Communication Association (ICA), the Canadian Association of African Studies (CAAS), Canadian Communication Association, and the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA) conference. He is a member of the Digital Ethnography Working Group at Rutgers University, United States. Also, he was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Center for Digital Anthropology, University College London, United Kingdom. His forthcoming monograph with Palgrave Macmillan interrogates Nigeria’s EndSARS activism through the lens of implicit collective memory.
