Author Biographies

Dr. Yujie Zhao is a lecturer at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University. She holds a master’s degree in Pomology from Henan Agricultural University, a PhD in Forest Cultivation from Nanjing Forestry University, and a joint PhD in Horticultural Plant Breeding from Chiba University, Japan. Her research focuses on molecular biology and genetic breeding of fruit trees, and developmental biology of fruit trees. She has published seven SCI papers and three papers in Chinese core journals as the first author; and seven SCI papers and two papers in Chinese core journals as the second author. She has co-authored two monographs. She was the project leader for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Scholarship Council, the Henan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and the Henan Provincial Department of Education, and also participated in a project for the Tibet Autonomous Region Department of Science and Technology.

Dr. Pengbo Hao is a lecturer and master’s supervisor at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in horticulture and a master’s degree in forestry from Henan Agricultural University, and a PhD in Pomology from China Agricultural University. His research focuses on the mechanism of apple rootstock-scion interaction, the pathogenesis of apple replanting disease, and its control techniques. He has published more than ten related papers in journals such as EMBO Reports, Plant Biotechnology Journal, The Plant Journal, and Plant Physiology. Dr. Kunxi Zhang is an associate professor and master’s supervisor at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University, and a distinguished Young Talent at the university. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of Horticulture at Henan Agricultural University, a master’s degree from the College of Horticulture at Northwest A&F University, a doctorate degree, and was a postdoctoral fellow from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. Dr. Liu Cong is a lecturer at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from the College of Agriculture, Shandong Agricultural University, and a Master’s and Doctoral degree in Pomology from the College of Horticulture, Northwest A&F University. His research focuses on the selection and breeding of simplified apple tree shapes. He has led the Henan Agricultural University High-Level Talent Special Support Fund and participated in the National Natural Science Foundation of China project. He has published five papers as the first author in journals such as Plant Physiology and Horticulture Research. He mainly teaches the undergraduate required course “Horticultural Plant Breeding”. He has participated in numerous domestic academic conferences.
Dr. Yawen Shen is a lecturer at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Henan Agricultural University, a master’s degree in Pomology from Northwest A&F University, and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Potsdam, Germany. Her research focuses on apple growth and development, disease-resistance mechanisms, and the discovery and utilization of key genes. She has published three academic papers as the first author or corresponding author in foreign journals such as Postharvest Biology and Technology and Scientia Horticulturae, and has participated in the publication of several SCI papers. She is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses such as “Experimental Design and Statistical Analysis”, “Foreign Language for Horticulture”, and “Foreign Language for Tea Science”. She is a member of the editorial board of the journal Plant Stress.
Dr. Yu Liu is a lecturer at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information and Computing Science, a Master of Science degree in Pomology from Henan Agricultural University, and a PhD in Pomology from Northwest A&F University. His research focuses on apple developmental biology. He has published numerous articles as the first author or co-author in journals such as Nature Communications, Horticulture Research, Advanced Science, and New Phytologist. He primarily teaches undergraduate courses such as “Experimental Design and Statistical Analysis” and “Tissue Culture of Horticultural Plants”. He is a reviewer for Fruit Research. He has led one National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Youth Fund project and participated in two sub-projects of the National Key Research and Development Program.
Dr. Miaomiao Wang is an associate professor and master’s supervisor at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University, and a Young Talent at Henan Agricultural University. Her research focuses on apple fruit, primarily investigating the molecular regulatory mechanisms of fruit ripening and senescence, as well as postharvest storage and preservation techniques, providing a theoretical foundation for maintaining fruit quality and breeding superior new varieties. She has published more than 20 SCI papers in journals such as Plant Biotechnology Journal, Journal of Experimental Botany, and Postharvest Biology and Technology. She has been granted eight national invention patents as the first author or co-author. She is mainly responsible for teaching undergraduate required courses such as “Fruit Tree Cultivation”, “Protected Fruit Tree Cultivation”, and “Horticultural Product Marketing”, as well as graduate courses such as “Horticultural Product Production and Marketing” and “Transcription Regulation and Gene Expression”.

Prof. Shangwei Song is a professor and master’s supervisor at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University. He also holds a master’s degree from Huazhong Agricultural University. Prof. Jian Jiao is the deputy director of the Department of Pomology, a university-appointed professor, and a master’s supervisor at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University. He was selected for Henan Agricultural University’s “Top Talent Program”. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Shandong Agricultural University, a master’s degree from the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and a doctorate from Northwest A&F University. Prof. Zhaohe Yuan is a professor at the College of Forestry, Nanjing Forestry University. He was a visiting scholar at Washington State University and the University of Maryland. His research focuses on economic forest cultivation, fruit trees and horticultural plants, particularly pomegranate germplasm resources and genetic breeding, as well as bioinformatics. He has led more than 20 nationa-l and provincial-level research projects, including projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Basic Research Program of China, the National Science and Technology Support Program, and the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Development Plan. He is the chairman of the Pomegranate Working Group of the International Society for Horticultural Science and the vice chairman of the Pomegranate Branch of the Chinese Society for Horticultural Science. He has published over 150 papers in domestic and international journals and edited 10 books. He has received four second-class and two third-class provincial- and ministerial-level science-and-technology progress awards, and has had 22 improved varieties of fruit trees and horticultural plants approved at the provincial level.
Prof. Xianbo Zheng is a professor, a doctoral/master’s supervisor, and the director of the Science and Technology Department at the College of Horticulture, Henan Agricultural University. His research focuses on the breeding of new varieties and simplified cultivation methods for major northern fruit trees such as apples, peaches, grapes, pomegranates, and walnuts. He has led or participated in more than 10 projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, major science and technology projects in Henan Province, science and technology promotion projects of the State Forestry Administration, and the State Forestry Administration’s 948 Project. He has also led more than 30 projects, including key science and technology projects in Henan Province, major fruit industry technology projects in Henan Province, and projects of the Henan Fruit Tree Industry Science and Technology Commissioner Service Team. He has formulated eight industry standards and published more than 200 related papers in journals such as Plant Biotechnology Journal, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Postharvest Biology and Technology, Journal of Horticulture, and Journal of Fruit Science (more than 50 of which are as first author or corresponding author). He presided over and participated in the approval of 15 new varieties of peaches, grapes, etc., and won three Henan Science and Technology Progress Awards.
