Dr. Samar El-Mekkawi is a chemical engineer and Associate Research Professor at the National Research Centre in Egypt. Her career spans over two decades, marked by significant contributions to chemical engineering, sustainable energy, and waste management. Dr. El-Mekkawi holds a Ph.D. (2016), M.Sc. (2008), and B.Sc. (1994) in Chemical Engineering from Cairo University. Her research is primarily housed within the Engineering and Renewable Energy Research Institute, focusing on the Chemical Engineering and Pilot Plant Department. Dr. El-Mekkawi's professional journey began in 2011 as a Research Assistant and progressively advanced to her current role in 2022. Her career milestones include leading innovative research on algal-based wastewater treatment, biofuel production, and environmental sustainability. As a lecturer and mentor, she has taught courses like "Planning of Operations and Chemical Plants" and supervised graduate theses on environmentally friendly materials and green technologies. Dr. El-Mekkawi's expertise lies in wastewater treatment and renewable energy, life cycle assessment (LCA) for industrial applications, project management, and grant proposal writing, as well as peer review for journals like Elsevier and Taylor & Francis.
