Claudio Urrea was born in Santiago, Chile. He holds a Ph.D. in Automation and Production from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France (2003, "Très Honorable"), a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences from University of Santiago de Chile ("Highest Distinction"), and a Post-Doctorate from Université d'Aix-Marseille III, France.Since 1998, he has been with the Electrical Engineering Department at University of Santiago de Chile, where he founded and directs the Robotics Laboratory. Currently Full Professor, he serves as Director of the Instrumentation and Electronic Development Center and Ph.D. Program Director (Automation). He previously served as Vice-Rector of Graduate Studies. Dr. Urrea has published 250+ articles in WoS/SCOPUS journals, led 30+ R&D projects (FONDEF, CORFO), and holds a fault-tolerant robotics patent. Awards include "Best Academic/Researcher" (2017) and "Marcos Orrego Puelma" from Chile's Institute of Engineers. His research areas include: industrial and collaborative robotics, fault-tolerant dynamic systems, automatic control (nonlinear, optimal, robust, predictive), AI in robotics, deep learning, bio-inspired algorithms, computer vision, medical robotics, autonomous vehicles, cooperative multi-robot systems, industrial IoT, software-defined networks, multimodal data fusion, virtual reality, flexible manufacturing, embedded systems, digital signal processing, exoskeletons, and mining process automation.
