Alisheikh A. Atta was born in Humera, in the Tigray region of northwest Ethiopia. He earned a diploma in General Agriculture from Ambo College of Agriculture, a B.Sc. from Mekelle University in Ethiopia, an M.Sc. from Wageningen University in the Netherlands (2008), and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida (2019). He is currently working as a postdoctoral associate at the University of Florida. Before his doctoral studies, Atta held several professional positions, including extension agent, manager of the Plant Materials Multiplication Center, county irrigation agronomist, head of the Office of Water Supply, Irrigation and Energy, and head of the Office of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He later served as a lecturer at Mekelle University in Ethiopia.
