Prof. Dr. John J. Lemasters is a Professor in the Department of Drug Discovery & Biomedical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Charleston, SC, USA. He received his MD and PhD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1975. Prior to joining MUSC, he served as a faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center Southwestern Medical School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prof. Lemasters has a long-standing interest in the role of mitochondrial metabolism in hepatopathobiology, especially in relation to ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury, ethanol/drug-induced hepatic injury, liver preservation for transplantation, cancer, and mitochondrial autophagy (mitophagy).
Prof. Dr. Zhi Zhong is a Professor in the Department of Drug Discovery & Biomedical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC, USA. She obtained her MS and MD degrees from the Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences, and her PhD and post-doctoral training in Nutrition, Hepatology, and Toxicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prof. Zhong’s research interests include both basic and translational research on hepatology and toxicology, especially on the roles of free radicals and mitochondrial dysfunction in liver injury, inflammation, and fibrosis. She has a long-standing interest in steatotic liver diseases and liver transplantation.
