Prof. Jason A Mendoza is a UW Professor of Pediatrics and Adjunct Professor of Health Services. He teaches and practices general pediatrics at Harborview Medical Center in the pediatric clinic, a county safety-net clinic. Dr. Mendoza has devoted his career to promoting equity in physical activity and healthy eating among low-income and racial/ethnic minority children. His research has been extramurally funded by the National Institutes of Health (NCI, NIDDK, NHLBI), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and St. Baldrick's Foundation. He also leads research on the influence of food insecurity (i.e., hunger) on youth and young adults with diabetes.
Dr. Marian L. Neuhouser received her BS in Nutrition from the University of California, Davis, and completed graduate work culminating with a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Washington in 1996. For over 20 years she has conducted both clinical trials and observational studies on the relationships of lifestyle factors, such as nutrition, energy balance and physical activity, and cancer risk and cancer survivorship. Dr. Neuhouser is currently Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on several NIH-funded grants and contracts. She has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and a dozen book chapters related to dietary assessment methods, diet and health, and cancer prevention. Dr. Neuhouser is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Society for Preventive Oncology and the American Society for Nutrition (ASN). She was ASN President from 2016-17.
