Prof. Walter Chen is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at National Taipei University of Technology. His research focuses on soil erosion, slope stability, eco-engineering, and the integration of artificial intelligence with geotechnical methods. He co-authored a systematic review published in Earth-Science Reviews (2023) that identified widespread misuse of the Modified Fournier Index (MFI) equation in estimating rainfall erosivity—revealing that this error has persisted globally since 1989 and has affected over 125 studies with more than 3,300 cumulative citations.
