Tieshan Xu, a doctoral researcher at the Animal Husbandry
Research Center, focuses on poultry breeding and healthy farming. With over 20
years in meat duck resource conservation, evaluation, utilization and healthy
farming, he led Jiajia duck evaluations, co-built a Jiajia duck conservation
farm (400,000+ ducklings/year), first assembled the muscovy duck genome,
identified duck muscle development key genes/miRNAs (1 monograph, 10+ papers),
and helped breed 3 new meat duck varieties (37% national market share); he also
created a Jiajia duck mesh-bed rearing system and 2 efficient feed formulas
(e.g., non-force-feeding one boosting slaughter weight by 30%). In the past 5
years, he led 10+ provincial-level projects, won 5 provincial awards (including
2021 Hainan Science and Technology Progress Second Prize, first completer),
published 40+ papers (12 SCI, total IF>50), edited 3 books, obtained 2
patents and 12 software copyrights, formulated 4 standards, and had 1 Hainan
key promoted technology. A Northwest A&F University graduate (bachelor’s,
master’s, doctorate), he has been a researcher at the Institute of Tropical
Crop Variety Resources, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences since
2020, a Wageningen University visiting scholar (2013–2014), and held a
temporary position at Hainan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural
Affairs (2021–2022).
Dexiang Zhang, a Doctor of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry
Agricultural Extension Agent, is a master’s supervisor at the Department of
Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction, College of Animal Science, South
China Agricultural University. He holds degrees from Hunan Agricultural
University (bachelor’s) and Northeast Agricultural University (master’s, doctorate)
and has conducted postdoctoral research at South China Agricultural University.
Since 2000, he has served as Deputy General Manager at Southern Poultry
Breeding Co., Ltd. of Guangdong Wens Group (seconded), overseeing poultry
breeding. He led the development of 8 nationally approved high-quality broiler
breeds, won awards like the National Harvest Award (Second Prize) and Guangdong
Agricultural Technology Extension Award (First Prize) and has undertaken over
10 key projects with more than 90 papers published.
